European Marketing Academy
EMAC External Relations
How EMAC builds links with academic, professional and practitioner-focused organisations to serve its members and the wider marketing discipline.
The role of EMAC
EMAC is primarily an association of marketing academics whose geographic centre of gravity is Europe. Its external relations activities support EMAC members and help advance the marketing discipline internationally.
EMAC goals
- Advance the science of marketing.
- Disseminate those advances through academic publications, teaching and practical applications.
External relations leadership
External Relations at EMAC are overseen by the VP of External Relations and should serve EMAC members and the marketing discipline through strategic links with relevant organisations.
External relations focus
EMAC develops relationships with organisations where meaningful synergies can support research exchange, international visibility, joint initiatives and professional collaboration.
Types of external links
- Extending EMAC’s geographic boundaries through links with pan-national general marketing associations, such as AMA and ANZMAC.
- Establishing links with country-based organisations within EMAC’s central scope, such as the French Marketing Academy and the UK Academy of Marketing.
- Linking with more narrowly focused academic organisations, such as ISMS, PDMA, AMS and ACR.
- Linking with practitioner-focused organisations, such as ESOMAR, EMC, MSI and ISBM, where significant synergies may exist.
Possible forms of collaboration
These links and synergies may include joint meetings, joint publications, cross-marketing of products and other mutually beneficial initiatives.
Linkage mechanisms
EMAC should establish ongoing links with organisations where maximal synergies exist. Links with other organisations may be either ad hoc, based on a specific situation, or strategic, depending on the degree of mutual interest and benefit in an ongoing relationship.
Ongoing ties
Where an ongoing relationship serves the needs of both EMAC and the associated organisation, the EMAC VP of Global Relations may formally act as liaison or appoint a liaison, with the advice and consent of the EMAC Executive Committee. The liaison oversees and reports on activities and initiatives of mutual interest to both organisations.
Tactical ties
Where a relationship is likely to be more transient, the VP Global Relations deals with the relationship directly in an ad hoc manner.
Reporting
The EMAC VP Global Relations coordinates and reports on the activities of the various liaisons at each EMAC Board meeting. The EMAC secretariat sends notices to the liaisons requesting appropriate updates and reports for the VP External Relations.
